Making a report as an assignment is always a
challenge because report format is a little different from other assignment writing format
in a manner of writing style as students use a formal writing style. There are
some suggested approaches for compiling report formats however; these are not
definite format style that can be changed as report requirement.
Title Page
The title page of the report must contain necessary
content such as:
- For whom report is written
- By whom the report is written
- When the report is written
Abstract
The abstract of report must contain some important
figures of the report like what is the purpose of your investigation and why do
you need to conduct this experiment, what did you do in this experiment and a
brief summary of your important finding through your investigation. And state
the most important fact of what did you find out in your result.
Materials & Methods
This section is a major part of any scientific or
investigation report assignment where students are obligated to provide details
of what material did you use for your investigation and what methods did you
use to investigate their topic and explain the whole process they adapt to
reach their result.
Results
In this section, clearly state the main findings of
the research and present evidences and show them in a proper structure while
including graphs and charts as well. Here, fact should be reported correctly
with the evidences found during research or investigation, analyze it and its
applications. Recommendations and conclusions should not be included in result
but it is necessary to write them separately. The result section should only
contain the important factual findings during experiment or investigation and
through analysis of their results.
Discussion
This section should consist
of discussion of obtained results of experiment or investigation. First of all
present a summary of all the important fact of experiment’s finding then
describe the patterns and relationships that has been shown in result. Briefly
describe how shown result relates with your expectation and what are your
observations? Do they favor with your opinion or contradict with them? Describe
what you found out in your result and what were you expecting and how did this
experiment helps you to prove your point.
Reference Citations
Like all assignment
reports also required to have citation and it is important to note all the
important relevant resources used in the main body in reference section.
